Oxidative stress, where free radical and antioxidants are imbalanced, has been linked to a number of diseases including cancer, high blood pressure, rheumatoid arthritis, kidney disease and type 2 diabetes. Past studies have shown eating foods high in antioxidants may help lower oxidative stress. A recent Scientific Reports study claims one may help lower oxidative stress by eating 2 ounces of almonds daily. They looked at data from 8 different studies to generate their conclusion. Those that consumed about 2 ounces of almonds daily showed reduced uric acid and improved antioxidant defenses. Other foods high in antioxidants one might consider are certain berries, leafy greens and citrus.
